Don't the Bluray! Buy the HDDVD!Apr 24, 2010 I have both versions of Sleepy Hollow after buying the Bluray I was hugely let down by the worse than vhs quality of the picture. I managed to find a copy of the HDDVD to download and the picture quality is a thousand times clearer. Find the HDDVD copy don't bother with the Bluray.

Heers Johnny!!Apr 22, 2010 Johnny Depp is in fine form in this Tim Burton reworking of the classic Sleepy Hollow Fable. Instead of the bumbling country boy Ichabod of the original story Depp plays a bumbling New York City detective sent to investigate the murders taking place in the Hollow. His scientific methods using strange tools and powders of of his own invention are useless in solving the case because as he finally realizes he is dealing with the supernatural in the form of the Headless Horseman played by a very creepy Christopher Walken. Christina Ricci is
beautiful as Katrina Van Tassel and a perfect foil for Depp to play against. The supporting cast is also outstanding making the film a delight to watch.
Heads Will Roll...Need I Say More?Apr 17, 2010 Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci star in Tim Burton's macabre version of Washington Irving's very short story "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow." Let me say upfront, that I never have, and don't intend to, read the source material, as it looks boring. The script considerably expands on Irving's characters and moody atmosphere. The movie is very well directed by the Master Of Idiosyncrasy, Tim Burton (see "Edward Scissorhands," a bittersweet love story, or
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street," a stylish and operatic "Kill Bill" set in Victorian England). The performances in this movie are first-rate, from Johnny Depp & Christina Ricci right down to the child actor who plays Young Masbath. I love the tender moments in the film (when Katrina holds Young Masbath in her arms and when she holds Ichabod in her arms); those are my favourite bits. What else can I say? I'm very sentimental. The suspense is chilling, and the ending will shock you. When you think, you know what will happen next, think again. Very complex and intriguing gem of a film. I won't say more, lest I give away the plot. "Heads Will Roll."
The special features are quite interesting, beginning with a Making of featurette, and exclusive cast and crew interviews, which are very thorough. However, I think Christopher Lee and Martin Landau should have also been interviewed, as their roles were very small, but significant to the plot of the movie. Also, I'm somewhat disappointed that some scenes in the trailer (and lines of dialogue heard in the Making of featurette) were not in the movie or included as deleted scenes on the DVD.
I highly recommend the film. It's worth repeated viewings to fully understand the complex (but well defined) plot. It deserved the R rating, for graphic horror violence and gore, and a scene of sexuality.

A disappointment to say the leastApr 14, 2010 Pros: It has Chris Walken (!). It has Johnny Depp doing the kind of role he's good at (quirky, eccentric, awkward and off-kilter hero). It has the kind of spooky, dark, visually-stunning backdrop you expect from Tim Burton, and that you would hope to see in a film for the Sleepy Hollow story. The costuming is period-appropriate and well-executed. The action scenes are engaging.
Cons: It has that downs-syndrome-looking blonde (Ricci?), whose performance here can be likened to a piece of wilted lettuce. The film drags in places with a forced attraction between Ricci and Depp that I don't buy for a second, and most of the acting is entirely unconvincing (let's face it, Depp carries the entire film from start to finish. stumbling whenever Ricci appears, and Walken really doesn't have to do much acting at all so his involvement doesn't count as far as it otherwise might). It has very little to do with the classics. Lazy Hollywoodified scriptwriting.
I'll be honest, if it were any other director I might have given another star to the rating. But I have come to expect much, much more from Burton and yes, I hold his films to a higher standard. This has to be my least favourite thing he's ever done.
If Walken and Depp weren't involved it would lose a star. In my opinion, the film is standing on those two actors and the costume/set dressing team talent.
Classic literature snobs and those expecting a Burton epic like Scisssorhands will be sorely disappointed. People looking to waste a couple of hours on mindless eye candy or who don't care about accuracy or convincing acting will be sated.
