Fantastic MovieAug 10, 2010 I recommend this movie to everyone! Even if you don't lift weights! This is the best Bodybuilding movie on the market today! It will inspire you and make you laugh.
More inspiring than it was decades ago.Jul 12, 2010 The 25th Anniversary DVD of the release of Pumping Iron if rife with extras. Aside from the original inspirational documentary there is a "Where are they now?" feature that shows Schwarzenegger, Columbo, Katz, Ferrigno, Corney and Waller twenty-five years after the events of the film. This was before Schwarzenegger became the governor of California so his political ambitions are not mentioned but he had become an international movie star. Schwarzenegger is featured in several of the extra videos commenting about his persona and the controversial things he said in the film. Interviews with George Butler about the making of Pumping Iron are intriguing and reveal how financially strapped the filmmaker was until a bodybuilding presentation at a New York art museum for art critics enabled him to pay his American Express bill. This DVD is well worth the price.
hilarious movieJun 18, 2010 As big as Arnold is, and now the Governor of my state, this movie was great. He made so many funny comments....so worth the $$$
This is a MUST classic !Jun 14, 2010 For anyone who is or was involved in the sport of body building, this is a classic "documentary" that will help bridge the generation gap between the often misunderstood old timers and current aficionados. The film includes early footage of legends working out and hanging out together, right around the 1975 Mr. Universe/Mr. Olympia event in South Africa. It has surprising and interesting "character studies" of the greats (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, Franco Columbo, Mike Katz, etc). For example, I was initially, like many others, very surprised to hear of Arnold's reluctance to attend his own father's funeral shortly before a contest for fear of psyching himself out and putting himself at a competitive disadvantage. The new DVD has bonus footage that serves to follow-up with open questions from the first edition. The viewers now have the opportunity to listen to Arnold's alternate explanations for the infamous "funeral", "pump", "Mike's blue t-shirt" and other interesting segments from the original cult classic. I loved this movie the first time I saw it many years ago; I enjoy it more now with the additional materials. I recommend this DVD to everyone.
Before and AfterMay 29, 2010 In 1964 I graduated from the University of Conn and headed west to seek my fortune. I wound up in LA and wandered into Gold's Gym in Venice. While not a competative body builder, I did work out in the same gym as "Arnold" and many of the other weight lifters shown in the movie. The twenty fifth anniversary edition shows those same individuals as they are today.
