5Worth it!Jul 28, 2010
When you watch this film you will be won over by these cute kids in their plight. Throughout the film a viewer is rooting for the kids to succeed in this heartwarming story.

Excellent Movie!!! I am not a big fan of translated, nor International movies but Children of Heaven is truly breath taking. This movie helped me value the smaller things in life and it truly touched my heart.

It It arrived fast & was extremely easy. I was pleased with the overall result.

5Simple Yet A Sophisticated PleasureMar 08, 2010
Telling the story of 2 young kids and a father who has to work double duty as Mosque tea server and at another job, it is apparent that there are even harder struggles to deal with than just being poor. How to enjoy life without stepping over each other as humans in a modern world of cell phones and superficialities is a difficult task for some in western media to convey, considering that there are corporations who need to advertise through most of the modern western movies ( observing a guy drink a COCA COlA in a Jack in The Box for instance ). This movie keeps it down to earth and charmingly does so. I would recommend this film to people who think Iran is just a place where the veil over women's hair is the center point of attraction. The movie explains that women and men have a just equal difficult time of getting by as they do here in America with the luxuries at our disposal.

5Children of Heaven reviewDec 28, 2009
Great movie! It is a hidden gem being a beautiful Iranian film AND a film where the two main characters are young children--the supporting roles are played by adults. A very interesting perspective that anyone who has been misunderstood as a child can relate to...a very touching and real film without being overly sentimental purely for sentimentality's sake. I love the scenes and insights to the Iranian school system...very different from the many California schools I have taught that are filled with too many kids who talk back and have little to no respect for teachers/adults.
Great movie. Very refreshing. I have showed it to many classes both high school and college.

5CharmingNov 03, 2009
As the story opens, young Ali is picking up his sister's shoes from the repair shop. On the way home, the shoes are inadvertently lost and Ali must tell his little sister Zahra they are gone. The family has no money for new shoes and Ali fears they will both be beaten, so they don't tell their parents but come up with a plan: Zahra will wear Ali's shoes to school in the morning and he will wear them in the afternoon.

This Iranian film is absolutely charming. We see the world through the children's eyes...the harsh realities of their poverty and the contrasting luxury Ali sees when he helps his father as a gardener. Ali risks serious consequences by sticking with the plan and Zahra's heart longs for the beautiful shoes of her classmates. The children who play the leads are natural actors, completely believable and sympathetic; sadly, this was their only movie.

I couldn't wait to see what would happen next and the long-distance race at the end is really exciting. Highly recommended for the whole family, but keep the tissues handy. (In Persian with English subtitles.)
