Horse and buggy paced ScifiMar 07, 2010 By the time (yawn) Hal entered the story, I had not found one likeable character in the whole movie, so Hal did'nt have a chance - I turned off the player and started thinking of how to dispose of the DVD. Shame on Arthur C. Clarke for messing in this one.

Good movieMar 02, 2010 The special effects were done without computers, really good movie for its day! Not something I would watch often though.

Problem SoundMar 01, 2010 I saw this movie at age 17 when it came out. I didn't really get it. Now I do, and I love the movie. So I bought the Blu-Ray. Is anyone else haveing a sound problem with the opening Wagner music? Sounds like something is terribly wrong, as if the disc has a problem. It's not my equipment; all other movies play fine.

Absolutely stunning clarity for such an old film.Feb 21, 2010 Who would think this film was over 40 years old. The crisp rich sharpness is unparalleled.
This must be seen on Blu-Ray with the largest possible TV (we have a 52" HDTV but a 60" would have been nicer) with good sound to fully appreciate the film. Watching this at home was better than in theaters with 35mm and poor sound.
Unfortunately I never did see the film in 70mm when it was originally released since only a few theaters had that equipment. That would have been quite the experience.
